Yardley London - Scents of distinction

Scents of distinction

Yardley London are renowned the world over, by the most discerning, for the quality and exquisiteness of our fragrances.

However wearing fragrance is as much of an art as creating it. So, to help you get the most from your Yardley London fragrance, we’d like to tell you a little more about why it’s so prestigious and how to wear it.

The essence of Yardley London

A fragrance consists of a variety of ingredients described, using a musical metaphor, as having three sets of notes. The top notes, middle (or heart) notes and base notes work together harmoniously to create a unique scent. The top note creates an initial impression and usually consists of light fragrance ingredients that evaporate quickly. After a few minutes, the middle notes start to develop and the heart of the fragrance emerges. The base notes complement the heart and work together to provide the main essence of the fragrance.

Our floral fragrances are such high quality because of the way the scent is created and harmonised. Each is based around one or to key linear notes, which remain constant throughout the scent; an indication of true excellence. They are softened with subtle top, heart and base notes. Our body sprays are created with the same balance of notes, offering equally high quality and lasting perfection.

A floral history

Flowers and plants have been used for their fragrant and health-giving benefits throughout history. As far back as the ancient Egyptians, people distilled flowers to make perfumed oils. Through the ages, plants have been used to scent skin, rooms, clothes, make tonics and ward off illness.

Flowers are vital to the art of perfumery. They're at the heart of any quality fragrance, and we believe that a fragrance with no heart has no soul. Most scents need to be harmonised with others to create a fuller perfume, although rose, jasmine and, of course, english lavender are fragrant enough to give a clean single-note scent.

Choosing your Yardley London fragrance

Every fragrance will change subtly as it reacts with your individual body chemistry, making it truly unique to you. It's important to live with a fragrance for a few hours before you can really make your mind up. The scent you wear may depend on your mood, the time of year or where you're going, so find two or three signature scents that you love so you can vary your fragrance.

How to wear Yardley London

For a lasting and satisfying effect, layer your fragrance and apply it correctly. Fragrance layering means building up the scent by using harmonised products, such as soap or shower creme, talc, lotions, body spray and eau de toilette. Moisturising dry skin also helps the scent to last longer. Apply body spray holding it at a distance and spraying a light cloud up your body from toes to shoulders. Before dressing, apply a light spray of eau de toilette to your pulse points; your wrists, the base of your throat, behind the ears, your elbows, backs of knees and your cleavage. Don't rub your wrists together as it breaks the scent down. Alternatively, spray a cloud of fragrance from ankles upwards and walk into it, to distribute the scent evenly.
